Donation Options
The work of the African American Planning Commission, Inc. (AAPCI) relies largely on the generosity of individuals like YOU. We welcome financial and in-kind contributions to support our on-going efforts to address homelessness, develop affordable housing, create economic independence and assist families in need.
AAPCI receives government funding and donations from individuals like YOU which are critical to help fund program implementation and ongoing operational support. We ask for your generous financial support to help strengthen and sustain our efforts well into the future.
AAPCI is a charitable organization registered with the State of New York. Its latest financial report is available upon request or from the New York Attorney General’s online charities registry (www.charitiesnys.com). The Attorney General’s office can also be reached at (212) 416-8686.
AAPCI is committed to reducing homelessness and addressing the related issues of domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, mental health disorders, substance abuse, shortage of affordable housing, and unemployment in the communities in which we live and serve. Matching Gifts
Ever wish you could make your gift dollars go further? You can–through your company’s matching gift program. Thousands of companies, small and large, have Matching Gift programs which double or even triple individual, tax-deductible contributions made by their employees. Your employer may be one of them!

Bucks For Books Campaign
At the start of summer 2021, we launched our Bucks for Books campaign as part of AAPCI’s literacy program across our shelters.
Our goal is to ensure that all our residents, children and adults alike, have access to books and reading materials during their time with us. We understand the importance of reading for education and development, and more importantly, enjoyment and offering a chance to escape into someone else’s story.
We want to instill a love of reading, with the hope that when our residents transition from shelter to a permanent home, they will continue this journey on their own.
To mark the launch, we were very excited to be able to host acclaimed children’s author, Carmen Rubin, at both our domestic violence shelters in Brooklyn and the Bronx. Ms. Carmen dedicated two days to spending time with families and members of our staff, reading to them and sharing her joy of storytelling. We were thrilled to be able to start our younger residents’ reading journey by gifting them each a signed copy of one of Ms. Rubin’s books.
Additionally we are starting our Star Reader challenge, during which time those young residents who read the most books have the chance to win prizes.
Through generous donations received from you, our supporters, we have been able to purchase these books and with continued support we hope to build a lending library in each of our shelters.
We have also been receiving in-kind donations, and our gratitude goes to the BlaQue Resource Network, a community-conscious, action-oriented organization located in Queens, who generously donated dozens of books to kick start this initiative.
Clothing Donations
We Need Your Help
Donate Warm Coats and Winter Gear. Help support our men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, footwear, and hygiene products drive. “Give your old shirt a second life” Campaign
We are delighted to share the news that British-based men’s clothing company, Charles Tyrwhitt’s Roosevelt Fields store located in Long Island, has selected AAPCI as a grateful beneficiary of their “Give your old shirt a second life” campaign.
How it works is, customers can return pre-loved shirts or polos (and they don’t just have to be Charles Tyrwhitt!) to a store and receive money off a new one. The more customers recycle, the more money off they get. The shirts are then donated to those in need. That’s where AAPCI comes in.

Other Ways to Donate
