“AAPCI’s Board of Directors and staff are pleased and gratified with the commencement of construction of Glenmore Manor/Brownsville HUB,” stated Matthew Okebiyi, CEO & Executive Director of the African American Planning Commission, Inc. (AAPCI). 

After many years of hard work by so many in the Brownsville community, AAPCI is thrilled that this visionary project is coming to fruition. The redevelopment of this site located in the heart of the Brownsville community has a significant beneficial impact for the community, providing affordable housing for low and moderate income families and for single homeless individuals, as well as seniors. 

An array of social, educational and recreational services will be provided on site by AAPCI and its local non-profit partners. This development’s retail spaces will also provide business services to consumers, as well as local employment opportunities. With our partners Brisa Builders and Lemle & Wolff, we look forward to providing 233 units of affordable housing, including 70 units for formerly homeless families and individuals, units for seniors, and vital community services in the Brownsville Hub. 

We thank all our partners, first and foremost Mayor Eric Adams who provided critical funding when he was Brooklyn Borough President. We also wish to thank former NYC Council Member Rafael L. Espinal, Jr. who also provided critical funding for the project. Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) worked diligently and patiently with our team and also contributed much needed funding for this project’s success. Additional thanks goes to the leadership of Brooklyn’s Community Board #16, all its members, and District Manager Viola D. Greene-Walker, for their unwavering support over the years. Gratitude for their support goes to NYS Assemblywoman Latrice M. Walker and to former City Council member Alicka Ampry-Samuel. We also wish to thank our government partners, HPD Commissioner Adolfo Carrión Jr., and NYC HDC President Eric Enderlin, who continues to lead with funding.
