NYC one-bedroom rents hit $2,980/month, an all-time high. Two bedroom hits $3,300/month

Securing affordable housing is a challenge for many New Yorkers. With a vacancy rate of less than 1% in the rental housing market, affordable housing in New York City is at best a scarce commodity. Real estate listing site Zumper released its June national rent report, which once again placed New York City second place in a top 10 of the highest one-bedroom median rent prices in the country, after San Francisco.

According to the report, the median rent in New York, NY for a one bedroom jumped 4.6% to an all-time peak of $2,980, while two bedrooms had an even larger monthly growth rate, up 5.1% to $3,300.

The report looked at 100 cities in the country using data from over one million listings. The report’s top five markets with the highest June one-bedroom rents in the country, include: San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Boston, MA, San Jose, CA, Los Angeles, CA.
