Privacy Statement
African American Planning Commission, Inc. (“we,” “our,” “us,” “AAPCI”) is strongly committed to protecting the privacy of visitors to its web site and is committed to maintaining your confidence and trust. This Privacy Statement sets forth the online data collection and usage policies and practices that apply to AAPCI, and its website (the “Website”). This Statement does not apply to information we collect in any other fashion.
The purpose of the AAPCI Privacy Statement is to inform you of what kinds of information we may gather about you when you visit the Website, how we may use that information, whether we disclose it to anyone, and the choices you have regarding our use of, and your ability to correct, the information.
Finally, please note that this Privacy Statement applies only to our Website. While the Website contains links to other websites, we do not control those websites, nor are we responsible for the privacy policies or practices of other Web sites to which you choose to link from our Sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of those other Web sites so you can understand how they collect, use and share your information.
AAPCI does not collect any information from you on the Website without your knowledge and/or permission. In general, our Website automatically gathers certain usage information like the number and frequency of visitors , very much like television ratings that tell the networks how many people tuned in to a program. This is done by the automated collections of your IP (Internet Protocol) address, domain name, browser type, operating system, information on the website that referred you to us, any pages visited, and the dates/times of those visits. We only use such data in the aggregate, and no personal identifying information is retained for this purpose. This aggregate data helps us determine how many visitors use particular parts of our site, how visitors find our site, and how frequently visits occur. This helps us improve our site to ensure that it is as appealing as we can make it for as many of you as possible.
Sometimes, we may specifically ask for information about you when you make a donation, ask about volunteering, sign up for our mailing list, or otherwise inquire about one of our programs or services. We will need certain information — such as name or email address — in order to provide that information to you. We may also use that information to let you know of additional programs and services about which you might be interested.
AAPCI does not disclose this information to anyone except to fulfill your request, and to manage our Website. AAPCI does not request or store sensitive information from our visitors such as credit card numbers. At any time, you may request AAPCI correct, update, and/or delete your personal information by emailing Contact@aapci.org.
We have implemented commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to secure your personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration or disclosure. However, we cannot guarantee that unauthorized third parties will never be able to defeat those measures or use your personal information for improper purposes.
Any personal information submitted to the Website is protected through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (“SSL”) protocol. SSL encryption makes it difficult for your information to be intercepted or stolen while being transmitted. We participate with PayPal to process our online credit card donation transactions. The Website uses “cookies.” A cookie is a text file that is placed on your device when you view a website. Cookies contain no data about you, and are not used to run programs or deliver viruses of any kind. Cookies are uniquely assigned to your device, and can only be read by a Web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.
One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature to save you time. The purpose of a cookie is to tell the Web server that you have returned to a specific page.
We use “cookies” to help personalize and maximize your online experience. For example, cookies tell us how and when pages in our site are visited, and by how many people.
For example, if you register with the AAPCI Web Site, a cookie will help recall your specific information (such as user name, password, and preferences). Because of our use of cookies, we can deliver faster and more accurate results and a more personalized site experience. We also use cookies to track click streams and for load balancing.
These cookies do not collect personally identifiable information and we do not combine information collected through cookies with other personally identifiable information we may collect for any purpose, even to tell us who you are or your screen name or e-mail address.
You may have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline all cookies if you prefer. Alternatively, you may be able to modify your browser setting to notify you each time a cookie is tendered and permit you to accept or decline cookies on an individual basis. If you choose to decline cookies, however, that may hinder performance and negatively impact your experience on the AAPCI Web Site.
AAPCI may provide statistical “ratings” information, but never information about you personally, to our Board of Directors, our partners, and stakeholders about how our members, collectively, use the AAPCI Web Site. We do this so they too can understand how many people visit various pages or subject areas, as means of evaluating our content creation, and to provide you with the best possible Web experience as well.
AAPCI Web Pages may contain electronic images known as Web beacons (sometimes called single-pixel gifs) that allow us to count users who have visited those pages and to deliver co-branded services. Web beacons are not used to access your personally identifiable information; they are a technique we use to compile aggregated statistics about our Web site usage. Web beacons collect only a limited set of information including a cookie number, time and date of a page view, and a description of the page on which the Web beacon resides.
You may not decline web beacons, however, they can be rendered ineffective by declining all cookies or modifying your browser setting to notify you each time a cookie is tendered and permit you to accept or decline cookies on an individual basis.
Third parties are not permitted to use Web beacons on the AAPCI Website.
We do not use or disclose information about your individual visits to the AAPCI Web Site or information that you may give us, such as your name, address, email address or telephone number, to any outside companies. But as we mentioned above, we may share with our Web site partners aggregated and statistical “ratings” information about the use of the Website.
AAPCI reserves the right to modify our policy as needed. If we decide to materially change the Privacy Statement of the African American Planning Commission, we will post those changes here so that you will always know what information we gather, how we might use that information, and whether we will disclose it to anyone.
For any questions or concerns regarding this Privacy Statement, please email Contact@aapci.org.
