Meghan Kouassi, BA
Director of Social Services
Sleep Inn Gowanus

My name is Meghan Kouassi and I come from a West African background, specifically from Ivory Coast. I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology from Queens College and am currently pursuing my master’s degree. Formerly a Case Manager Supervisor, I now serve as the Director of Social Services at Sleep Inn Gowanus, where I have gained experience working with a diverse range of clients in a shelter setting.

I began my journey in shelters as a Resident Assistant and gradually advanced to a supervisory role. My intention has always been to make a meaningful impact on clients by contributing to the social services field. Although I’ve seen two different aspects of shelter operations, my ultimate goal remains the same: to serve those in need.

I am passionate about my work and dedicated to effecting positive change in people’s lives, ensuring they receive the support and resources they deserve. I believe that homelessness does not have a specific face; anyone can find themselves just a day away from it. There’s a powerful African proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” This wisdom emphasizes the importance of collaboration and community in making a lasting difference.
