Gothamist: NYC declares 'code blue' for homeless outreach due to freezing wind chills in forecast
The National Weather Service says real-feel temperatures will dip to around freezing Friday night, setting up potentially dangerous conditions for New York City’s homeless population.
As a result, city emergency management officials are declaring a “code blue” for increased outreach to homeless people from 4 p.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday. City workers will be on the streets offering access to shelters to those in need.
A spokesperson for New York City Emergency Management says the city activates code blue anytime the forecast calls for overnight temperatures or wind chills of 32 degrees or less.
