Eddy F. Alteus, MSW
Assistant Program Director
Edwin’s Place, HDFC

Eddy Alteus is an ordained Minister who devoted many years to helping individuals and families in his community; especially those who are marginalized. He did it free of interests and with passion; for those who do not know how to navigate the government systems to get the services that they need, and have access to the available resources. As more people were turning to him for services and help with situations involving school, hospital, Immigration, public benefits such as Medicaid, SNAP, and Housing, Mr. Alteus found it hard to turn them way because of a lack of training in social services and adequate resources.

About twelve years ago, he made the huge sacrifice to go back to college so he could get the proper training in Social Services to better assist the aforementioned population. It was a big challenge to go to school full-time while fulfilling family obligations, pastoring a church, and working at the same time. First, Mr. Alteus attended City College then transferred to Medgar Evers college where he graduated Magma Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. Mr. Alteus did not stop there. He attended Adelphi University where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Social Work. By the Grace of God, and with the devotion to serve and advocate for those who are marginalized, Mr. Alteus was able to achieve his goal.

In October 2020, Eddy F. Alteus joined the African American Planning Commission as a Case Manager/Mental Health Counselor. Later, that title was changed to Clinical Coordinator where he provided direct support to the Program Director and helped train new Case Managers. After four years of dedicated services to the tenants of Edwin’s Place, and a clear demonstration of the ability to follow the rules and procedures of AAPCI, Mr. Alteus was promoted to the position of Assistant Program Director at Edwin’s Place.

The title has changed but the commitment to carry out the mission and vision of AAPCI, and to deliver efficient services to the tenants of Edwin’s Place remains the same.
