AIDS FACTS
in Tanzania
- Adults aged between 15 and 49 years account of 1.2 million
our of the 1.5 million HIV infected people in the country.
- It
is estimated that from 1990 --2010, AIDS will have increased
the crude death rate in Tanzania by more than 50%.
- Life
expectancy in Tanzania has decreased from 61 to 46 years due
to AIDS.
- Although
20% of the population, Tanzanians aged 15 to 24 years, account
for 60% of new infections in the country.
- More
than 68,000 children under 15 years are living with HIV/AIDS.
- It
is reported that each year 50,000 to 60,000 children are born
HIV positive and more of them die before they are 5 years.
- Over
1.1 million children under the age of 15 years are orphaned
to AIDS.
