AIDS FACTS
in South Africa
- South Africa has one of the most severe HIV/AIDS epidemics
and is described as one of the fastest growing epidemics in
the world.
- It
is reported that 4.2 million South Africans are infected with
HIV.
- It
is estimated that South Africa will loose 4 to 7 million people
to AIDS in the coming decade.
- In
South Africa, life expectancy has been reduced from 62 years
to 56 years.
- Two-thirds
of new infections occur among the ages of 15 to 20 years old.
- AIDS
is the leading cause of death among South Africans aged 15
to 49 years old.
